Giocare con le storie: il binomio fantastico di Gianni Rodari
Secondo Gianni Rodari, il binomio fantastico è l’accostamento di due parole insolite, con l’obiettivo di innescare un corto circuito nella fantasia di grandi e piccini per creare una storia. In questo post ti propongo di usare il binomio fantastico come un gioco per incoraggiare la propensione di bambine e bambini alla narrazione.
Perché è utile giocare con le storie e quali regole seguire
Ascoltare, immaginare, inventare, drammatizzare, mettere in scena sono soltanto alcuni dei processi cognitivi che esercitiamo se impariamo a giocare con le storie. Attraverso l’esercizio della narrazione, i bambini si confrontano con le proprie emozioni e con il mondo che li circonda, sperimentando un modo di imparare divertente e, quindi, utile [Leggi anche Sbagliando si inventa: giocare con gli errori con Gianni Rodari].
Come direbbe Wittgenstein, «le parole sono come la pellicola superficiale su un’acqua profonda» e, di conseguenza, se vogliamo inventare una storia, dobbiamo imparare a nuotare sott’acqua.
Nel libro Grammatica della fantasia, Rodari suggerisce alcune strategie per divertirsi con le storie e stimolare la fantasia dei bambini. Per mettere in pratica questi esercizi, gli adulti devono imparare a valorizzare la capacità dei più piccoli di reagire alla narrazione e interpretarla in modo creativo. Questo significa che non esistono storie giuste o sbagliate, storie belle e brutte, ma durante questa esperienza ognuno è libero di abbandonare razionalità e coerenza per approdare a territori inesplorati.
Il binomio fantastico: che cos’è e come si gioca
Ogni singola parola può ispirare un racconto, ma una storia nasce soltanto se si crea un binomio fantastico, cioè un incontro-scontro tra due termini apparentemente estranei.
Scrive Rodari: «La parola singola agisce solo quando ne incontra una seconda che la provoca, la costringe a uscire dai binari dell’abitudine, a scoprire nuove capacità di significare. Non c’è vita, dove non c’è lotta».
Occorre, quindi, che i vocaboli siano sufficientemente distanti tra loro al fine di mettere in moto l’immaginazione.
Se si gioca in gruppo, ogni bambino può indicare una parola senza che i compagni la scoprano ed estrarne a sorte due da un cestino. Se un bambino gioca da solo con un adulto, si può scegliere a caso dal dizionario o pescare in una scatola di ritagli.
In questo esercizio, le parole perdono il loro significato quotidiano e i piccoli giocatori, a fronte di un iniziale spaesamento, cominciano a farne “materia prima” per narrazioni divertenti e paradossali.
Rodari racconta che durante la sua esperienza di maestro, era solito mandare due alunni alla lavagna e chiedere ad ognuno di scrivere su ciascun lato. Quando venivano fuori parole insolite come tetraedro oppure ornitorinco, i racconti diventavano davvero entusiasmanti.
Se c’è qualche difficoltà, può essere utile cominciare con l’elencare tutti gli usi e significati di uno specifico termine. In secondo luogo, i due vocaboli prescelti possono essere legati da una preposizione che ne proponga il legame. Ad esempio “il gatto con l’armadio” suggerisce un racconto molto diverso da “il gatto dentro l’armadio”.
